Burkina Faso’s Transition President Michel Kafando on Wednesday deplored the shortage of midwives in his country where the ratio of midwives is one to over 10,823 people. midwives
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the normal ratio of midwives is supposed to be one to 5,000 people, the president said when he spoke during the first national congress of Burkinabe midwives.
Elsewhere, Kafando reiterated the need to construct more maternity wards to enable pregnant mothers to deliver safely.
He further explained that equipping of health centers with materials and consumable constitute a commitment and a challenge for the state.
The first national congress for midwives is being held under the theme “Towards Universal Healthcare, Guaranteeing maternal health to women and girls.” Enditem
