Burkina Faso’s government on Thursday decided to abolish custodial sentences for journalists.

journalist logo“There will be no longer custodial sentences for journalists,” Communication Minister Frederic Nikiema said, adding that “imprisonment sentences will be replaced with fines.”

However, Nikiema explained that the “decriminalization was partial because the penal code will continue being applied on other media offences.” Enditem
