The Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District  says it needs about GH?500,000 to address water challenge in the area.

Students and some community members in Nakpanduri, Bimbagu, Kambatiak , Najong and other towns find it difficult to access potable water as most of them depend on dugouts, which dry out due to the area?s harsh climatic condition.

Out of the about 150, 000 population of the area, it is estimated that only 80,000 people representing about 56 per cent have access to potable water.

Mr Solomon Boar, Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, said this at a thanksgiving service held at the weekend in Tamale for the show of support before, during and after 2012 election which ensured that he won the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said with collaboration of non-governmental organizatiosn, plans were advanced to mechanize the boreholes in Nakpanduri and appealed to the government and other international development partners to support the area in efforts to improve access to potable water to prevent water borne diseases.

Mr Boar said the bad roads in the district were hindering development and that the government had no plans to rehabilitate them.

He said frequent pockets of ethnic conflicts in the area had been the greatest enemy, adding that, ?Anytime there is conflict properties are destroyed and it retrogress the area to about 20 years?.

Mr Boar said the conflict had damaged the reputation of the area and had left the various ethnic groups in a high level of mistrust.

He appealed to the youth to be innovative and make education a priority to be able to contribute meaningfully to their area and the nation.

Mr Alhaji Haruna Tia, Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),called on members to work hard and be ready to canvass for votes for the party to wrestle power from the ruling NDC.

?We have gone through a lot of temptations but God has seen us through so let?s remain calm and be ready to work for the party to brighten our chances in 2016?, he said.
