Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi met with a delegation from China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation, a state owned company that trades under the name Sinosure here on Thursday.

The delegation was visiting the country to identify areas where Sinosure could cooperate with local government in a bid to promote trade between China and Botswana, said Song Shuguang, chairman of Sinosure.

As an open economy welcoming foreign direct investment, Botswana encourages further investment from China, as the two countries have cultivated strong political ties for a long time, said Masisi.

“We are happy to have you here, (which is) another significant step in our relations … our government has worked to create a conducive environment for investment in Botswana,” Masisi said.

Botswana expects transitional investment in the form of human capital, encourages direct investment in the tourism sector and welcomes Chinese tourists to enjoy the country’s flora and fauna, which is beneficial to Botswana economically, he said.

Founded in 2001, Sinosure is a state owned policy-oriented export credit insurance company that has insured over 110,000 Chinese companies across the world.

Its products include short, medium and long-term export credit insurance, investment insurance, bond and guarantee business as well as credit assessment business. Enditem
