Ghana’s Black Stars will travel to Stuttgart on Monday, March 30, for a pre-World Cup international friendly against Germany, giving Otto Addo’s side a high-profile test as both nations fine-tune their preparations ahead of the tournament in North America this summer.
The fixture offers an important examination for both sides, with Ghana having already sealed qualification for the 2026 World Cup and drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Germany had originally planned to face Ivory Coast in Stuttgart, but FIFA regulations prohibit group-stage opponents from meeting in pre-tournament friendlies. With the December draw placing Ivory Coast in Germany’s Group E, Ghana stepped in as replacements.
Ghana head coach Otto Addo, who is Hamburg-born and a former Bundesliga professional, said ahead of the match: “This is an amazing opportunity for us to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world.”
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann views the encounter as tactically relevant, saying the Black Stars’ strength on the counter-attack mirrors what Germany can expect from their World Cup group stage opponents.
The two nations have met just three times previously, with their first encounter being a 6-1 Germany win in Bochum back in 1993. Monday’s match in Stuttgart represents a timely opportunity for Ghana to gauge where they stand against a top European side with just over two months until the World Cup kicks off.
Kickoff at the MHP Arena is scheduled for 8:45pm local time.
