Ghana defeated Guinea 2-0 in their first Group A game of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The Stars started positively by creating several chances in the opening half, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

A swift attack from the Guineans saw Ibrahima Camara in the Stars box from the left flank, but his powerful 14-yard strike hit the side of the net.

Just before recess Ghana came close again with Gideon Wajas powerful strike, but again the direction was poor and the shot sailed over.

The Black Stars grabbed the lead when an inswinger from the right by Felix Addo was well connected by Stephen Sarfo from four yards out, just three minutes into the second half.

Ghana extended their lead after Razak Patrick headed a cross back into the path of Kwame Kizito who headed home from close range.

Guinea nearly pulled a goal back when a spectacular 30-yard free-kick from
Seydouba Camara struck the woodwork and bounced back into play.

Ghana, with the win tops group A with three points as Nigeria and Mali played to a scoreless draw in the first game of the day.
