Ghana’s Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren expressed measured optimism before Tuesday’s crucial Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semifinal against Morocco.
The Swedish tactician drew confidence from his team’s prior encounter with the Atlas Lionesses during his debut match as Ghana’s coach.
“I know them very well. We lost 1-0 in the last minute, but we had real chances to win,” Björkegren told press on Monday. He declined to identify specific Moroccan threats, emphasizing team strategy over individual analysis. The match marks Ghana’s first WAFCON semifinal appearance since 2016, reigniting national hopes for continental glory.
The showdown kicks off at 19:00 GMT at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium. Ghana aims to leverage Björkegren’s tactical familiarity to overcome the host nation. Under his leadership, the Black Queens seek to advance to Saturday’s final, potentially securing Ghana’s first WAFCON title since 2003.
