Essipon (W/R), Jan. 30, GNA – The General Overseer of the Christian Faith Church Bishop Emmanuel Botwey has admonished aspiring parliamentary candidates to seek spiritual help from God only.

‘You should not be anxious for nothing because God enthrones kings and him alone who dethrones them,’ adding that, ’God is omnipotent and He alone can help you win the elections.”

Bishop Botwey gave the advice at the National Interdenominational Prayer Service of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the Sekondi Sports stadium in Essipong.

The prayer service was for peace before, during and after the December general elections.

It was on the theme: “Setting Forth through the Hand of God”.

Bishop Botwey prayed for peace and the nation, also advised the NPP parliamentary candidates that their presence at the meeting should not be cosmetic but real.

In a sermon, Apostle Dr. Felix Antwi, Takoradi Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, said peace is an essential pre-requisite for prosperity and development of the country.

He asked the people to be peacemakers by being peaceful in their conduct during the elections.

Apostle Antwi noted that the country and its leaders had not always done what God expected of them.

The people should, therefore, repent of their sins, he said adding, “True repentance is an essential step now to peace”.

Apostle Antwi was hopeful that God would give the country the right leadership in 2012.

The Sekondi Sports Stadium was filled to capacity with party supporters clad in the red, white and blue colours of the NPP.

The stadium ruptured into loud cheers when the flag-bearer of the party, Nana Akuffo Addo arrived clad in all white attire.

He went round the stadium to acknowledge the support of the party supporters.

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, National Chairman of the NPP, read the first scripture with Mr. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the Minority Leader in Parliament, reading the second and Nana Akufo-Addo, the third.

High-ranking party officials including, the former president,  Mr J. A Kufour, as well as heads of religious bodies graced the occasion.
