Solomon Asante has been dropped

Berekum Chelsea midfielder Solomon Asante was dropped from Ghana’s final 24-man squad for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers because of doubts over his nationality.

The Ghana born diminutive has featured for Burkina Faso in a tournament and the Ghana FA does not want to take chances.

Asante came off the bench to play in Burkina Faso’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of South Africa in August 2011 but could have gone ahead to play for Ghana.

The Ghana Football Association in a statement said that it has written to FIFA to seek clarification over the player’s eligibility.

Asante earned a late call-up into the provisional 30-man squad after Albert Adomah withdrew due to injury.

He was trained at the Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord Academy before moving to Burkinabe side ASFA Yennega.
