Ghana?s Bennard Kumordzi inspired KRC Genk to victory in the 2012/13 Belgian Cup triumph as he scored to help them defeat Cercle Brugge 2-0 in the final on Thursday night in Brussel.

He scored late, in the 85th minute with a nice finish, before his team-mate Jelle Vossen, sealed the success a minute left of normal time at the Stade Roi Baudouin.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a memorable first season with Mario Been?s side scoring important goals for the club.

Kumordzi scored in the 6-0 hammering of Union Saint-Gilloise in sixth round tie last September and has since played an influential in Genk?s quest for silverware.

Cercle Brugge, who reached the final after eliminating Kortrijk had Ghanaian defender Francis Dickoh watching from their substitute bench.

Though Cercle Brugge are battling with relegation from the Belgian top flight, determination to secure a major success in what has been a troubled season clearly told.

Genk found it uneasy to break them down and the game travelled late into normal time before Kumordzi, the lanky midfielder who joined from French side Dijon gave them the opener.

He steered home a wonderful effort after 85 minutes to put Genk into the lead before Jelle Vossen made sure the trophy is heading to the Cristal Arena.

The success means there will be European football for Kumordzi next season as the club now hold a Europa League ticket.

However, if the Blues manage to finish first or second in the championship play-offs, the former Arsenal-pursuit will be making his first ever appearance in the Uefa Champions League next season.
