The first edition of Benin International Music Festival was opened on Thursday at the Cotonou Conference Center.
The event is aimed at expanding the market for Benin’s music and developing the country’s cultural sector, said Richmir Totah, the festival’s organizer.

Benin“The creation and organization of Benin International Music Festival by the Beninese state is in line with the new national cultural policy adopted by the government,” Totah affirmed.
“This biennial festival will be an ideal cultural exchange platform that will bring together the diaspora, international professionals in the field of arts and culture, international media, technical and financial partners and international film production firms,” Totah added.
The official noted that since independence, Benin’s music sector has neither had a platform for expression nor a unifying body, unlike the theater sector which has had Benin International Theater Festival for a long time.
The five-day Benin International Music Festival will be hosted in three major Beninese cities; Cotonou, Bohicon and Parakou.
During the festival, there will be presentation of songs, exhibition of Benin’s traditional music instruments and intellectual debates by cultural professionals, both on radio and television. Enditem
