Bundesliga 2012/13 - Bayern, Dortmund play to draw

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund played out to a 1-1 draw in their Bundesliga clash at the Signal Iduna Park. Kevin Grosskreutz opened the scoring for Dortmund, but Bayern replied through Mario Gomez to walk away with a point on Saturday evening.

Bayern finished the match with ten men after fullback Rafinha got sent off in the second half. This match was seen as a dress rehearsal for the UEFA Champions League final, as the sides are scheduled to meet in three weeks? time at Wembley Stadium.

Dortmund took the lead eleven minutes into the match when Kuba put in a peach of a cross towards the far post and Grosskreutz, playing as a right-back in this encounter, came streaming forward and ripped a fantastic volley full into the roof of the net from about 10-yards out.

Bayern were level 12 minutes later. Rafinha clipped a harmless ball into the six-yard box. Dortmund defender Neven Subotic was supremely lazy trying to cut out the ball, and Grosskreutz, on the far side, just stood there picking his nose. Gomez didn?t think twice, streaking through the pair to guide the ball easily into the far side to make it 1-1 in the 23rd minute.

On the half hour mark Dortmund were close to retaking the lead when Robert Lewandowski went slicing and dicing past Bayern centre-backs Jerome Boateng and Daniel Van Buyten and tried to put the cherry on top with a clip over Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer, but the keeper had spread himself just enough to make the save.

A minute before the break Gomez was denied when he lucked into controlling a square pass by David Alaba, and then showed far more dexterity to dink on the inside of Marcel Schmelzer, but Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller got off his line quickly to block his sliding finish.

On the hour mark Dortmund were awarded a penalty kick after Jerome Boateng was adjudged to have handled in the box. Low and hard to the left went Lewandowski’s kick went, but so did the Bayern shot stopper Neuer.
