The state governor says that a report he just received rates the state very high for HIV/AIDS prevalence

Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Dickson, has said that the state is reported as one with the highest rate of the dreaded Human Immune Virus (HIV)/AIDS in the country.

He said this at the inauguration of the new Commissioner for Health, Dr. Michael Awoli, on Tuesday.

?I just received a report concerning the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in this State. And that is very disturbing. Within this week, I will announce the composition of an agency to tackle the issue. It appears we are almost at the top. I do not know how verifiable the statistics are, but it is very disturbing. It means our future is in danger, and we must do something about it.? he said.

Dickson added that a Bill to establish an agency to tackle the spread in the State would be forwarded to the State House of Assembly, and that an HIV/AIDS agency would be set up to replace the existing committee, for an effective HIV prevention, awareness, rehabilitation and treatment programme.
