Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has promised to revolutionize smartphone accessibility across Ghana if elected, unveiling plans for a groundbreaking initiative at a campaign rally in the Northern region.
Addressing enthusiastic supporters, Dr Bawumia outlined a proposal to collaborate with mobile phone manufacturers to provide smartphones on a credit basis.
This initiative aims to democratize digital access by allowing citizens to purchase devices and pay for them in affordable monthly instalments, as low as GHC1 or GHC2.
“Our government will ensure that access to mobile phones becomes affordable for every Ghanaian,” Dr. Bawumia declared.
“Through partnerships with phone manufacturers, we will establish a system where individuals can acquire smartphones through a convenient credit plan. This means paying minimal amounts monthly until the full cost is settled.”
Highlighting the importance of connectivity in the modern age, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the initiative would bridge the digital divide, enhancing communication and access to information nationwide.
As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, the pledge reflects a commitment to leveraging technology for inclusive development and empowerment.
