Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has characterized the New Patriotic Party’s constitutional amendments as pivotal to reclaiming power in Ghana’s 2028 elections.

In a July 2025 statement following the National Delegates Conference, the 2024 NPP flagbearer praised the party’s “resilience in challenging times” during the University of Ghana gathering.

Official party communications confirm the approved reforms include restructuring electoral colleges, abolishing the super-delegates system, and expanding executive committees. Bawumia’s message emphasized organizational renewal, stating the changes represent “a major step forward” in the opposition’s rebuilding strategy after its 2024 electoral defeat.

The former Vice President extended appreciation to delegates from all 16 regions, acknowledging their participation in the constitutional review process. Political analysts note the reforms aim to address internal grievances that contributed to the NPP’s loss to President John Mahama’s NDC administration.
