Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has been released by relegated English Championship club Barnsley just under six months of joining the side, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The 22-year-old is in a list of fourteen players considered surplus to requirement at the club.

Frimpong only joined Barnsley in January from Premier League giants Arsenal in a move that was supposed to jump-start his career.

The Ghana international had endured a torrid spell with injuries during his three-year stay in the first team of the Gunners.

He was however unable to make the expected impact after making nine appearances for The Tykes in a season that ended in massive disappointed as the side got relegated from the English championship.

The ex Charlton Athletic and Fulham loanee must now quickly find a new club in order to save his football career.

Frimpong?s football career has now taken a massive hit after being considered as one of the most exciting young prospects some few years back.

He is highly unlikely to make Ghana?s squad for the 2014 World Cup which now leaves him with no major platform on which to audition for a new club.

The Kumasi-born who has played once for the Black Stars is now left to leverage on his fast wading reputation as youthful potential to land his next contract.

His free agent status could however prove a positive preposition for interested clubs.
