Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), in conjunction with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), will honour Braimah Kamoko (Bukom Banku) and Michael Ayittey Okine (Ayitey Powers), at the 39th MTN/SWAG Awards Night scheduled for the Banquet Hall of State House tonight.

A joint statement from SWAG and GBA said the two pugilists are being honoured for the professional manner in which they hyped their catch-weight contest held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

?As a result of the pre-event hype displayed by Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers, their fight attracted the largest crowd ever seen at a boxing tournament in Ghana. And we are going to honour them tonight for bringing life into Ghana?s professional boxing which was clearly dying a slow, painful death?, the statement added.

A member of the organizing committee of tonight?s MTN/SWAG Awards Nite hinted that the two boxers will each be given a Laptop, donated by GIFEC, for their children who are in school.

MTN, the leading telecommunications company in Ghana, is the headline sponsor of the SWAG Awards Nite. Other corporate sponsors are Activa International Insurance, Stanbic Bank, GOIL, Blue Rose, GIFEC, Voltic, Hisense, Kenpong, and Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited.

Her Excellency Irene Vida Gala, Brazil Ambassador to Ghana, is the Special Guest of tonight?s SWAG Awards Night which is aimed at celebrating the Black Stars prior to their departure for the World Cup 2014.
