The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has terminated the employment of more than 100 staff members recruited in 2024, citing failure to meet probationary requirements.

The affected employees received dismissal notices on Thursday, 19 June 2025, instructing them to conclude their roles by Monday, 23 June 2025, with one month’s salary in lieu of notice.

The termination letters, signed by Lucy Sasu, Head of Human Resources, stated that the employees’ six-month probationary periods had not been satisfactorily completed. “Management regrets to inform you that your appointment cannot be confirmed,” the notices read, directing staff to return all bank property before their exit.

This move aligns with a broader wave of public sector dismissals following the change in government in January 2025. Earlier this year, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah ordered the annulment of all public sector appointments made after 7 December 2024, deeming them inconsistent with good governance practices.

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Tafo, highlighted the trend on social media, noting the ongoing terminations. The BoG has yet to issue an official statement on whether further dismissals are planned. The affected staff, many hired last year, now face job insecurity amid Ghana’s current economic challenges.
