Jennifer Rosoff

A 35-year-old woman, who was on a first date, fell to her death Thursday from the balcony of her 17th-floor apartment.

Jennifer Rosoff went out onto the balcony around 12:50 a.m. to talk and smoke a cigarette with her date when the balcony?s railing broke, according to police.

She landed on a second-storey construction scaffolding of the building and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Sarah Shubert, a resident of the apartment building, told PIX11 that she heard a dull thud at the time. ?Last thing I would ever imagine,? she said.

The managing director of Stonehenge Management LLC, which manages the building released a statement Thursday.

?This is a tragedy, and our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Rosoff,? Richard Dansereau said.

?We are cooperating fully with the investigation into the cause of this terrible accident.?

The New York City Department of Buildings issued a vacate order for all balconies in the building as a precaution while the incident was under investigation.
