Riot fans forced a Ghanaian Zonal Division One League game between local rivals Bofoakwa Tano and Brong Ahafo United to be abandoned at the Coronation Park  in Sunyani on Wednesday.

The Ghana Football Association?s Disciplinary wing will rule on the case and apply the appropriate sanction to the guilty party.

Both Bofo and United fans threw missiles onto the playing ground after a penalty was award against the Bofo in the dying embers of the tie.

The ?Mighty River? were cruising to a 1-0 win over their bitter rivals with a first-half strike from youngster Francis Afriyie but proceedings were halted three minutes before the end of normal time after a penalty was awarded in United?s favour.

Bofoakwa officials and fans claimed their defender handled the ball outside of the 18-yard box but Yussif Mohammed ? the center referee, pointed to the spot and awarded a penalty kick to United ? a side which is coached by former Ghana international defender Frimpong Manso.

With Bofo fans, players and officials seriously contending the referee?s decision, United fans joined in the fray and both sides started directing missiles at each other.

United coach Manso says it was difficult for him to accept the gravity of the violence.

?I never imagined it could happen like that. The way both fans behaved was serious,? he told Accra-based Peace FM.

While condemning the violence, the Asante Kotoko legend admitted Bofo were the better side on the day.

?They played very well and looked better than us because they have the experience in their folds with a number of players who have played in this derby in the past.?
