Ayittey Powers

Boxing fans in the country are fuming with rage following the decision of Ayittey Powers to pull out of the much-talked-about fight with archrival Bukom Banku, scheduled for April 18 at the Accra Stadium.

Powers disclosed on radio yesterday that God had told him, through his spiritual father, Prophet TB Joshua, not to fight on April 18.

?As for me I want to fight, but if God says I cannot fight, I will not fight,? he told Joy Fm.

This assertion threw the boxing fraternity into some kind of pandemonium, with some casting aspersions at the boxer.

?Ayittey Powers is a coward, that?s what I think. Why do you make a whole country believe you are equal to the task, only for you to come up with this flimsy excuse?? said Charles Takyi-Boadu, a journalist.

On her part, Maame Adjoa told DAILY GUIDE SPORTS, ?I am so disappointed in the guy (Ayittey Powers). A few of my relatives in America and UK had planned to fly over to Ghana because of the fight. This is a major disappointment.?

In an effort to resolve the matter, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) yesterday held a marathon discussion with the ?runaway? boxer at his Mamprobi Sagacious Boxing Gym.

Consequently, GBA decided to meet with the other stakeholders to reschedule the bout.

?We just finished a meeting with Powers, and we have agreed to reschedule the fight to a future date,? GBA scribe Naa Darkua Doodo told DAILY GUIDE SPORTS in an interview.

She added, ?We want to avoid the situation where one of the parties will pull out. We will be meeting with stakeholders like Supersport, TV3 and others to fix a new date for the bout.?

Earlier, DAILY GUIDE SPORTS contacted the fight?s promoter Alex Ntiamoah, CEO of Box Office Promotions, on the matter, but he pointed out that he had no knowledge about the pull out, saying, ?As far as I know, the fight would be coming off as planned.?

He indicated that Powers had not communicated his decision to pull out to the promoters.
