— Police in southern Zambia said about 300 opposition supporters have been charged with various offences for post-election related violence.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said some of the suspects have already been and appeared before the courts of law while others were still being screened.

He said the suspects have been charged with various offenses which include arson, riotous behavior, malicious damage to property and assault occasioning bodily harm. (Zambia Daily Mail)

— Zambia’s ruling Patriotic Front (PF) said the main opposition party will be embarrassed if it files its petition over the just-ended election because it allegedly has no reasonable ground for its action.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) intends to petition the presidential election results, alleging fraud and malpractices on Monday next week.(Daily Nation)

— The United Kingdom (UK) has congratulated Zambian President Edgar Lungu on his re-election in last Thursday’s elections.
