DAMASCUS — At least 39 Syrian military personnel were killed during raging battles with the Islamic State (IS) group at a besieged northern airbase, a monitor group reported Wednesday.

A total of 39 army men, including 31 officers, have so far been killed during intense battles that have been raging since Sunday at the Koerse airbase in the countryside of the northern province of Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-IS)

ADEN, Yemen — About five members of the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch were killed when a U.S. drone strike targeted their car in southeastern province of Hadramout early on Wednesday, a security official told Xinhua.
“Five al-Qaida members were all killed when three missiles fired from a U.S. drone destroyed their car near Raukab area, east of Mukalla city, Hadramout’s provincial capital,” the local security source said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-US-Drone)

ANKARA — A Turkish soldier was killed and five others wounded in an attack by the militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday, private Dogan news agency reported.
