The Auditor General’s latest report disclosed that an alarming GH¢61 billion in state funds remain unrecovered, held by various companies and institutions throughout Ghana.
Of this amount, GH¢57 million is tied up with metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies, while GH¢5.6 billion is with state-owned enterprises.
Kwasi Adjei, the Controller and Accountant General, updated the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on the situation during his appearance.
He revealed that a dedicated committee has been formed to manage the recovery process. This committee comprises officers from the Department of Audit and the Ministry of Finance.
Adjei outlined the committee’s approach: “We have compiled a list of all the companies involved. Some are insolvent and no longer operational, but we will pursue recovery from those still active.
For insolvent companies, we will recommend to the Ministry and Parliament that their debts be written off.”
The committee aims to address the significant backlog of uncollected funds and ensure that recoverable amounts are pursued effectively.
