AU Special Representative for Somalia condemns killings of a journalist and innocent Civilians
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 1, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Speci al Represen tative of the Chairpers on of the Af rican Union Commission (SRCC), Am bassador Boubacar Gaoussou Diarra has le arnt with great sadness of the assas sination of the Somali weyn radio director, Abukar Hasan, a day afte r the appalling murder of eight civilia ns among w ho five were children.
Ambassa dor Diarra said; ‘At thi s time when Somalia, t hanks to th e efforts of the internat ional community is trying to lay the critical fou ndations of a stabile a nd a demo cratic state , the assassina tion of journalists who represent t he voices of the people, and the mu rder of inn ocent children whose only fault was e njoying the r eturn of peace in Soma lia as they p layed football, is and rem ains an intolerable crim e.’
The SRC C condemns these hide ous crimes a nd calls on all peace loving Somali s to step up their efforts fo r peace.
‘The African Union will not be deterred in its efforts to support the people of Mogadis hu as they seek to rebuild their lives following decades of anarchy. This is the sense of all our e fforts towards peace in So malia.’ said Ambassador Diarra.
The AU Special Repr esentative f or Somalia condoles with the berea ved family and the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of S omalia and p rays for the quick recov ery of the injured.
