Assistant Referee Malik Accuses Kotoko Team Manager Of Instigating Assault

Assistant referee Alidu Salif Malik has accused Kotoko?s Godwin Ablordey of masterminding the attack on the match officials during their bad-tempered clash against Medeama on Wednesday.

The Tamale-based referee claims the club?s team manager was the brain behind the attack on the match officials after Kotoko?s barren draw against the Mauves and Yellows at the Baba Yara stadium.

Centre referee Silas Okine alongside his two assistants Alidu Salifu Malik and David Laryea were held hostage on the pitch for more than five minutes after they were pelted with missiles.

Referee Malik has accused the former Kotoko captain of playing a leading role on the assault on the match officials.

?Though I was hurt, I endured it and I?m in my hometown of Tamale now,? Malik said

?Believe it or not this attack was led by no other person but the team manager for the faboulous club Godwin Ablordey,? Malik told Fox FM

? He (Ablordey) started the assault on the field of play and made known to us that they were going to beat us.

?I was not surprised. Godwin Ablordey was in front with some machomen behind them.

?They were attacking; we were defending together with the Police as they protected us.

?Our fourth referee was grabbed by the fans and given hot slaps and blows. It was a horrific incident.?

Kotoko face a hefty fine and long-term  ban for the assault that characterized their clash against the Tarkwa-based side.
