His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, formally recognized Member of Parliament for Bekwai Ralph Poku-Adusei as a descendant of Ashanti royalty during the sixth Awukudae Festival at Manhyia Palace.
The declaration came amid a gathering of paramount chiefs from all seven traditional divisions within the Bekwai Constituency, alongside New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives.
According to palace records, the Asantehene praised the first-term MP’s humility and royal lineage, framing his appearance as both a homecoming and renewal of allegiance to Asanteman. “He is not only a representative but a descendant of royalty. May ancestral wisdom guide him,” Otumfuo stated, charging Poku-Adusei to honor traditions while serving diligently in Parliament.
The MP, introduced by Kokofu Queen Mother Osagyefo Kusiwaa Mmua Baayie II, pledged to uphold constituents’ interests: “This blessing is a responsibility. I commit to collaborating with chiefs and citizens for development.”
Poku-Adusei, elected in 2024 on the NPP ticket, brings 14 years of legal experience to Parliament. An alumnus of KNUST and England’s College of Law, he previously managed Trent Legal and now serves as Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Sanitation Committee. His campaign prioritized infrastructure, healthcare, and poverty reduction.
The ceremony highlighted the enduring interplay of tradition and governance in Ashanti political culture.
