Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has reaffirmed Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene, as Ashanti Region’s representative to the National House of Chiefs.

The Asantehene announced the appointment during the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs’ general meeting in Kumasi on 17 July 2025. Nana Siriboe replaces the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Asante Mamponghene, on the national body.

“I have decided to appoint Juabenhene in the stead of Asante Mamponghene,” Otumfuo declared before assembled chiefs. He cited Nana Siriboe’s institutional memory as pivotal, noting: “Otuo Siriboe was first elected to the National House in 1975. That was fifty years ago.” The Juabenhene brings extensive chieftaincy experience, having served in national and regional roles for decades.

Nana Siriboe joins four existing Ashanti representatives: Bompatahene Nana Effah-Appenteng, Kumawuhene Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua, Domeabrahene Baffour Owusu Bediako II, and Essumegyahene Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II. Otumfuo charged the five-member delegation to collaborate in advocating for Ghanaian welfare at the national level.

The appointment reinforces Ashanti’s influence within Ghana’s highest traditional advisory body. The National House of Chiefs addresses chieftaincy, customary law, and national cohesion, with Siriboe’s return expected to strengthen deliberations amid ongoing debates about traditional leadership’s role in modern governance.
