Two second-half goals from stand-in captain Andre Ayew and Chelsea midfielder Christian Atsu were enough to undo a resilient Les Dodos, making Ghana the only country to qualify for the tournament on seven consecutive times since 2006.

“I am happy with what my teammates have done, and I want to use this opportunity to congratulate them for qualifying to the Afcon,” Gyan was quoted as saying by Footballghana.com

“I would have wished to be there but I am glad that they got the job done. We are the Black Stars of the world and I know we will continue to make Ghana proud,” he added.

Gyan, 30, was excused by coach Avram Grant to fully recover from a knee injury he picked up in Chinese Super League game with Shanghai SIPG last month.
