The striker is set to undergo medicals on Thursday

Dutch striker Robin van Persie has been signed on a four-year contract by Manchester United. 

van Persie is expected to travel to Manchester on Thursday to have his medical and discuss personal terms. 

In a statement on their website, Arsenal said: “Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United.

“van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.”

United issued a similar statement on thier website saying: “Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement for the transfer of Robin van Persie.

“The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has also reportedly told a French TV station: “It’s sad to lose a player of his quality.

“He had a year left on his contract so we didn’t have the choice.”

van Persie last season was the highest goal scorer in the Barclay’s Premier League with  44 goals in 57 games for club and country, including two against United.
