Arsenal have joined the race to sign Alvaro Vadillo, who has been labelled the ?new Cristiano Ronaldo?, according to The Independent.

The Gunners are set to compete with their north London rivals Tottenham for the signing of the Real Betis star, who became the youngest player to ever start a game in La Liga when he was just 16-years-old.

Vadillo, who has been scouted by major clubs from all around Europe, has been identified by Arsene Wenger as a potential signing this summer and the Arsenal boss believes the youngster can fill a gap in his squad after the release of Andrey Arshavin and the inevitable departure of Gervinho ? who?s in talks with Italian giants Roma.

However, Spurs have already shown interest in the starlet and Andre Villas-Boas believes he could be the long term replacement for Gareth Bale ? who looks destined for a move to Real Madrid.

Spurs look set to be given a huge cash windfall, if Bale is sold, and the White Hart Lane outfit will want to invest some of the money in the 18-year-old.

And with Arsenal already having gone head-to-head in the battle for Champions League qualification with Spurs last season, the pair could be at it again ? this time in pursuit of the ?new Ronaldo.?
