The deceased lying in a pool of blood

RESIDENTS OF Ash Town in Kumasi were thrown into a state of fright Friday evening following the shooting of a man by unknown assailants who sped away in a waiting vehicle after the heinous act.

What culminated in the dastardly act could not be readily ascertained, but most residents of the area did not rule out contract killing, considering the swiftness with which the man was shot to death.

The deceased, according to reports, was buying food around 8:10 pm when three people popped up in a vehicle and fired a bullet into the back of his head after which they drove away at a top speed, which made it almost impossible for the people at the scene to identify its number ? which could have helped investigators to trace the fiendish killers.

The deceased allegedly fell heavily on the ground after the shot and bled profusely for about 45 minutes before the frightened people, who took to their heels for cover following the sound of the gunshots, returned to assist him.

The assembly woman for the area, Comfort Aninkorah, who identified the deceased as Antwi, 34, a security man, said he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, perhaps for bleeding profusely for a long time.

Confirming the incident on Hello FM, she said Antwi was at the Buabasa area of Ash Town when the killers ? three in number ? arrived in a vehicle, fired at him from behind and sped away.

She said the sound of the gun frightened the people around, who took to their heels to avert being hit by stray bullets.

The assembly woman intimated that Antwi was left alone for about 45 minutes ?until I was called to the scene and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.?

Madam Aninkorah said perhaps Antwi could have survived the attack had he been rushed to the hospital on time.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the police quickly rushed to the crime scene when they were informed about the sad news, but no arrests had yet been made as at press time yesterday.
