Some 20,000 local residents took part in the ceremony, which was also attended by Chinese Ambassador to Luanda Cui Aimin and representatives of Chinese companies which contracted to build the basic infrastructures of the district, including a 10-kilometer express way, water supply, drainage systems and power distribution stations.

The multi-million-U.S.-dollar rehabilitation process of Sambizanga began in October 2012, but was delayed due to financial difficulties of the government and the problem to relocate some 30,000 local residents who were affected by the reconstruction works.

Friday’s ceremony apparently marked the restart in earnest of the overall reconstruction process of Sambizanga ahead of the 2017 general election year. Enditem
