The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has commended AngloGold Ashanti for the growth and development of the Obuasi municipality and urged the people in the people in the municipality to throw their weight behind efforts to transform the mine into a massive gold producer.

He said in spite of challenges and difficulties weighing down the mine, the operation would continue to play its role as major engine of growth in the municipality and would even do more when current efforts to rejuvenate the mine is completed in future.

The Municipal Chief Executive was speaking at Farmers Day celebration at Adansi Odumasi near Obuasi. He said AngloGold Ashanti is still in continuous engagement with the Municipal Administration on how to create more alternative livelihood projects and other small scale business opportunities for the people.

Donations were also made by AngloGold Ashanti to support similar celebrations at Bekwai Municipality, Adansi North, Amansie Central and Adansi South districts. The theme for the celebration was: Let us endeavor to EAT WHAT WE GROW.

Contributing, Nana Ampofo Bekoe, Manager, Sustainability and Community Relations Manager of the company said the Obuasi mine would continue to work hand in hand and assist the communities to grow and develop as long as the mine continues to operate.

?We have in the past assisted the communities in the areas of agriculture, water and sanitation, education and health and we will continue to assist as long as the company continues to operate?.

He commended the farmers for providing food throughout the year not only to AGA workers but other people in the Obuasi Municipality, and urged them to increase and expand their contribution to the development of the Ghanaian economy.

He disclosed that his year, AGA donated a motor king, a 32 – inch flat screen and other things as its contribution to motivate the farmers to produce more. He urged the farmers to reaffirm their support to the company in these challenging times.
