109 Malian And Guinean Illegal Miners Deported From Ghana

This came after the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria ordered that Walus be released on parole.

“Walus’ imminent release is a travesty of justice and a tragedy for the Hani family and all South Africans who believe in human rights and who held a firm belief in our right to fight for freedom,” ANC national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said.

The ANC demands that Walus be immediately deported to his country of origin on his release, and never to return to South Africa, he said.

The court’s decision to release Walus exactly a month before South Africa commemorates the 23rd Anniversary of the assassination of this towering hero (Hani) of the revolutionary struggle “is extremely insensitive”, he said.

Walus, a Polish immigrant, shot and killed Hani near Johannesburg on April 10, 1993. He was initially sentenced to death, but this was converted to life in prison after the abolition of capital punishment.

Hani’s death robbed South Africa of a committed revolutionary who embodied the undying resolve to freedom and liberation by the South African people, Kodwa said. Enditem
