The Anambra state House of Assembly has passed a bill for the
amendment of the state’s Local Government law 1999.

The bill which was passed at its plenary session presided over by the
Speaker, Chinwe Nwaebili, now stipulated that the Heads of each of the
21 local governments administration and their Treasurers be
responsible for signing cheques.

The House also approved that a security peace committee be established
by the governor in the local governments areas.

The Assembly has also passed a bill for a law to amend the State Joint
Local Government Committee Law, 2009. The new law has now increased
the five percent revenue that goes into local government account to
ten percent for the payment of pension and gratuity in the local
government system.

Nwaebili who read out the resolutions, used the opportunity to
commiserate with families that lost their loved ones during the March
15,2014 Nigeria Immigration nationwide recruitment exercise. She
called on the Federal Government to put in place precautionary
measures to avert recurrence, since a similar incident had occurred in
the past.

The House majority leader Mr. Hafford Oseke in his contribution,
called on government of Willie Obiano and his Deputy Dr Nkem to
consolidate on the landmark achievements recorded by former Governor
Peter Obi to the State.
