The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) today suffered a major set back when members of its Anambra State Chapter led by the state chairman, Chief Frank Igboka defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Igboka who had been the state chairman of PPA since the 2010 gubernatorial election in Anambra state told reporters in his office that the decision by the members to pitch their tent with the PDP was based on the fact that since the registration of the PPA, the party had not made any progress in terms of wining elective positions at all level across the nation.

Visibly angry, Igboka wondered why PPA was not among the 28 political parties recently de- registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission and called on INEC to as a matter of urgency de-register the party in the equity, fairness justice.

Reacting on the de-registration of 28 political parties by INEC, he said the action was not a solution to the political problem of Nigeria, suggesting that INEC should prune down the number of political parties to either three or five to reduce the heat in the polity.

He said that some of the existing political parties exist only during elections when they would collect grants from the federal government and fizzle out after dismembering the fund among the party executives.

He said that take off grants should only be given to parties that had had 2/3 of the elective positions contested by parties at all levels across the country.

?Today I belong to the New face of Anambra politicians of the PDP and no more a member or even chairman of the PPA. To day, aside from Imo and Abia states there is no PPA presence in any other part of Nigeria. The party does not have the spread to be recognized as a National Political Party. Today the party no longer exist in Anambra state.

?In fact PPA should be de-registered. People should not take the self acclaimed national chairman, Sam Nkire serious about what he is saying. Which congress or convention elected him the National chairman of PPA. All they do is to pay some money to INEC and take over elective positions in the party.

Igboka further alleged that most people that joined PPA only came to contest election and after that they abandoned the party, adding that what has been the nature of PPA is to continue to change leadership to enhance their secret political motives.

“They go about collecting money from election aspirants in the name of helping them to get a ticket and after that the aspirant or candidate is on his or her own. This is not politics and it has to stop. I can not be part of this day light fraud?.
