“The court decides to sentence Cambodian national Hang Vibol, 46, to three years in prison and fine him 8 million riel (2,000 U.S. dollars) for committing indecent act (against children) in 2014,” said the verdict pronounced by Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s Judge Kim Rothnarin.

jailThe verdict also ordered the convict to pay between 5 and 10 million riel (1,250 U.S. dollars and 2,500 U.S. dollars) in compensation to each of the five victims.

Speaking to reporters after the verdict, Vibol denied the charge and vowed to appeal against the prison sentence.

The former director was arrested in March last year by the juvenile protection unit at the Interior Ministry’s anti-human trafficking department and his orphanage in Phnom Penh was closed two days after his arrest. Enditem
