The Allied Health Professions Council has inaugurated its Wa regional office, marking a strategic push to enhance professional compliance and combat unlicensed practitioners in northern Ghana.

Acting Registrar Daniel Atta Nyarku emphasized that the new facility – the Council’s fifth regional branch – will eliminate the need for Upper West professionals to travel to Accra for license renewals and regulatory services while strengthening enforcement against quack practitioners.

Nyarku revealed the Council oversees 23 critical healthcare professions including radiographers and nutritionists, with continuous professional development now mandatory for license renewals.

While physical credentials remain centrally processed in Accra, the decentralization initiative aims to improve monitoring of the region’s 2,000+ allied health workers and ensure adherence to evolving medical standards.

The move addresses longstanding challenges in healthcare regulation across northern territories, where distance previously hindered oversight.
