The Katsina State Government on Thursday appointed Alhaji Abba Musa Rimi, a former Governor of the defunct Kaduna State, as Amirul-hajj and leader of the state pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

Rimi would lead the 4, 416 Muslims pilgrims from the state for the 2013 Hajj.

A statement issued in Katsina by Alhaji Sani Kabomo, the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Muntari Ibrahim said five other members have been appointed to support the Amirul-Hajj.

He listed the members as Alhaji Rabiu Gambo, the PDP state Chairman, Alhaji Halilu Ibrahim, the member representing Dutsinma constituency in state assembly, Alhaji Lawal Sani and Alhaji Hamisu Abdullahi, representing Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils, respectively and Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi would serve as secretary.
Meanwhile, the transportation of the pilgrims from the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Airport, Katsina to Saudi Arabia would commence on September 8.

The Chairman of the state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Danyaya Mashi, disclosed this during a sensitization workshop for intending pilgrims from Jibia Local Government.

He directed Hajj Desk Officers in the 34 local government areas to compile a register of those that attended the workshop, warning that failure to attend would lead to the cancellation of the Hajj seat.
