Social media has been awashed early Friday morning with bribery allegations against the Anyaa-Sowutuom constituency Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Albert Ekow Sam. Reports said the Chairman who is one of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly Chief Executive nominees, was allegedly approached by one of the nominnes who is also a council of elder of the New Patriotic Party, and offered 20, 000 Cedis and a pick-up track to step down for him.

However Eko Sam dismissed the story and described it as a calculated rumor to mar the existing peaceful relationship in the constituency.

The story making round was headlined “Bribery Scandal Hit Anyaa-Sowutuom ,as NPP Chairman Expose Council of Elder and Treasure Over An Attempt To Bribe Him”

The story continued that “An aggrieved constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Anyaa- Sowutuom has exposed an attempt by his party council of elder, Dr. Emmanuel Lamptey and constituency treasure Hajia over an attempt to bribe him to step down in the MCE race.

According to the aggrieved constituency Chairman, Mr Albert Ekow Sam, the council of elder who is also in the race of the MCE position came to his house one night with an amount of GH20,000 Cedis and a promise of buying him brand new Toyota pickup truck if he steps down for him to be appointed as MCE at Anyaa-Sowutuom which he refused”

But the chairman speaking with Bright Kwesi Asempa the host of Onua Fm morning shows ‘Yen Nsem Pa’ said “It is not true, nobody came to me, I am not a kid for anybody to buy me with money. I am a 65 year old man and no one can bribe me”

Albert Ekow Sam maintained that there was no iota of truth in the report making round, adding that there was no time his party members mentioned in the story came to him either to offer him money of asked him to step down for anybody. “They are all attempts to destroy my name. It is the President who will appoint whoever will be the MDC of the area and there is no way anybody could be bribed to step down. How about if the one I stepped down for has not been appointed? Eko Sam asked rhetorically.

He therefore wished to caution the general public and the media to cross check every information before going to public with it.
