Leadership and some members of the Agricultural Colleges Students’ Union picketed the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), demanding the restoration of their training allowances today 2nd August, 2017.

Agricultural Colleges StudentsThe union argued that, series of meetings and letters to MoFA requesting the restoration of their training allowance fell into deaf ears, hence their decision to picket.

The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Sagre Bambangi who addressed the aggrieved students, pleaded with them to give the Ministry a week to give them their feedback.

Spokesperson for the union, Amevor Lawrence, told News Ghanas’ Sammy Adjei that, if they do not get a fruitful response after the one-week deadline, they will do worse than what has happened today.

“When the Deputy Minister spoke to us, there wasn’t any assurance that our allowance will be restored but he has promised us that within a week, he will work on the issue and give us feedback. If within a week we don’t hear anything, you will see something else altogether,” Lawrence said.

“Today we are picketing because our allowances were cancelled just like all other training colleges. They have been promised restoration and for us, we have heard nothing. We all had the cancellation just at the same period. We have written letters and petitions to the offices on several occasions. We have even had series of press conferences all to no avail,” he stressed.
