Speaking in Mali’s capital Bamako where last Friday’s terror attack at Radisson Blu hotel killed at least 21 people, Burkina Faso’s Speaker of transition Parliament, Cherif Sy, said sub-regional countries had decided to cooperate in the fight against terrorism after realizing that no country can single-handedly resolve this cross-border crime.

He said there is no miracle solution, and the search for a political solution should be done side by side with the search for a military solution.

According to Sy, African youths should be educated on the Koran and it should be taught in schools to fight ignorance.

“Terrorists have benefited from ignorance by using the name of God, yet it is not written anywhere in the Koran, the Bible or anywhere else that these terrorist acts are allowed by God,” Sy said.

The president of Mali’s National Youth Council Mohamed Salia Toure said unity in each nation and intercontinental as well as inter-generational friendship are the best and solid response to this criminal fanaticism.

Ali Daou, an employee of an international organization in Mali, said “it is necessary to include in the school curriculum the notion of a culture of peace and non-violence, create wealth for economic growth and reduce the rate of unemployment among the youth.” Enditem
