“Three rockets were fired from an unknown location towards the new parliament building at around 10:15 a.m. (local time). One rocket struck a building inside the parliament complex, sending a black smoke into the air,” witness

The rocket caused a hole in the stricken building and smashed windowpanes of the building, a security source said.

“The initial investigation found no one was hurt as a result of the attack,” the source told Xinhua anonymously.

More details would be made public later as the investigation is going on, the source added.

The members of the Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of the parliament, were holding a meeting when the incident took place.

Further details about the incident are still forthcoming amid the absence of official statement.

The Taliban militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Friday, one security guard lost his leg after a bomb attack targeted a politician’s house in central part of the Kabul.

Violence has been on the rise since the drawdown of foreign forces over the past two years as the Afghan security forces struggle against a surge in attacks by anti-government fighters.

The NATO and U.S. forces completed their combat mission in Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after 13 years of military presence in the Asian country. Enditem
