Host nation Gabon have  been bundled out of the on-going 2017 African Cup of Nation after playing out a pulsating goalless draw with Cameroon on Sunday.

The ‘Panthers’ had their destiny in their own hands after recording two draws and lying third in group A and risk being eliminated from the competition.

Aubameyang in the fourth minute of the game failed to connect a glaring opportunity to put his side in-front but surprisingly fluffed it. He had earlier scored in their opening two games but missed the chance.

Gabon kept on pressing for the opening goal. Their persistent nearly payed off when minutes after Dennis Bouanga hit the post. He was the main threat going forward.

Cameroon took over the game shortly, seizing the midfield controlled by Gabon for most part of the game to end the first half. After a thrilling first half both teams failed to open the scoring.

The second half saw the ‘Indomitable Lions’ come into the game more strongly – cutting all supplies from the Gabon midfield.

However, Dortmund star Aubameyang flattered to deceive – disappointing the entire nation with his performance. The game ended goalless with Cameroon qualifying at the expense of the host nation.

Gabon, after 23 years become the first team to exit the competition in the first round as host nation after Tunisia were eliminated in the first round in 1994.

At Stade de Franceville, Burkina Faso produced a five star performance to beat tournament debutant Guinea Bissau by two goals to nil.

An own goal from Rudinilson Silva on the 12th minute and a second half goal from Bertrand Traore on the 58th minute mark made sure they grabbed all the three points to top group A.

The ‘Stallions’ finished the group as leaders with five points followed by Cameroon with the same number of points. Gabon followed with three and Guinea Bissau with a single point.

Cameroon will therefore meet Senegal, who have already qualified from group B whiles Burkina have to wait on who places second in the group.
