The Agona East District Assembly [AEDA] Junior High School won this year?s Annual Akwambo Festival of the Chiefs and people of Agona Mensakrom in the Central Region to become champions of Basic Schools in the town.

They beat Islamic Junior High School, Methodist Junior High School and Shallom Preparatory School to emerge winners.

At the Lower Primary level, Methodist Primary beat Shallom Preparatory and Islamic Primary School to be crowned winners.

Both Schools and the participating students would be awarded certificates and set of books as their prizes during the climax of the occasion on Sunday.

Other activities that marked the festival include football competition involving the various suburbs, clean-up exercise within the town, jogging by the Chiefs and people, dancing competition among the youth, donation to the elderly in the town, non-denominational Church activities and other fun games among other.

Briefing Newsghana before the competition, the Chairman of the 21-member planning committee of the festival, Ebusuapanyin Kow Eyiah said education remains a major priority to the Chiefs and people of the town, hence the organization of the quiz competition to promote learning among the school children.
He hinted that about 90 percent of all children in the town are in school, with about half of the number attending private schools outside the town.

He however admitted that youth delinquency is found in every society, but stressed that measures have been put in place by the planning committee to ensure an incident-free celebration of the festival one week festival.

He later lauded the efforts of the Chiefs to ensure that this year?s festival becomes exceptional from the previous ones.
