Ahead of the February 14 senatorial election, and in a bid to rewrite the age- long inability of successive representatives from the Okigwe senatorial zone to attract the much needed federal presence and economic empowerment to the zone, a group known as Champion for Okigwe Prosperity, has called on major stakeholders and the entire people of the area to throw their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, to guarantee productive representation in the red chambers of the National Assembly.
It also added that the senate was for those who have gotten the needed maturity through sound political and legislative experience in lawmaking.

The group through its National Chairman, Mr. Peter Nwankwo, made this known to reporters in Okigwe, while urging elders and stakeholders from the area, to ensure the emergence of a senator with the ranking membership status irrespective of party affiliation, in order to offer the zone the opportunity of producing a principal position or even the senate presidency of the senate, as well as ensuring that the full potentials of the district is activated for the benefits of the people.

He hinged his assertion on the fact that, if by mistake the Okigwe Senate seat is given to someone who does not have the ranking membership advantage, he will end up using his salary and allowances to further build personal empires without meaningful impact through legislation and attraction of federal projects for the development of the zone.
He said that okigwe people needs a senator that knows the technicalities in legislation, a law maker who can boldly talk and deliver in the chambers and more importantly enjoy all the privileges and rites of ranking membership in the upper chambers of the National assembly.

Mr Nwankwo, maintained that Okigwe people?s decision to support Rt.Hon.Uwajumogu, was largely because of his family traits, antecedents and his understanding of national politics, as well as a principal officer of the Nigerian Speakers Conference.
He also pointed out that good leaders must lead by example, noting that Uwajumogu even as a Speaker of the state legislature was humble enough to stay, play, dine, and sleep and support the people of the zone in any way he could.

Explaining further, he added that within the short period of time he handled the affairs of the state legislature, critical sectors of the zone?s economy has changed for the better through intelligent legislative inputs spearheaded by speaker.

He further described the Benjamin Uwajumogu for Senate campaign as a vehicular movement which according to him every serious and patriotic Okigwe son and daughter must key into towards ensuring the actualization of a new Okigwe zone as enunciated by its founding fathers.
