ADB Bank has presented a cheque of 10,000 Ghana Cedis to the President of the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) Lloyd Evans as part of its support to the upcoming annual awards for best Financial and Economic journalists in Ghana dubbed Flamingo Awards.

Presenting the cheque at the official launch of the second edition of IFEJ Flamingo Awards for Business and Financial Journalism 2015 in Accra, the Corporate Communications Manager of adb bank Mr Samuel Coleman noted the immense contributions Business and Financial journalists have played over the years to educate and informed the public on the operations of corporate Ghana and the state of the country?s economy. He believes that although financial reporters are doing their best in churning out good business stories and features, more needs to be done to improve their capacity to understand the evolving nature of the business world.

He said adb as a bank acknowledges the incredible support from the business and financial journalists in the country hence the assistance to IFEJ to motivate and help build the capacity of it members.
IFEJ President Lloyd Evans who received the cheque expressed the Institute gratitude to adb bank for its support to the awards and promised to put the funds into good use to inspire and encourage more business journalists in the country to up their game.

According to him business and financial journalism has evolved over the years with various media platforms forming part of this development. Inspite of this, the level of business and financial journalism has not been the best as most newspaper pages are still filled with public relations material instead of analytical articles.

He said it its quest to improve business and financial journalism to reflect the country?s changing media environment, IFEJ instituted the Flamingo Awards to serve as a platform to raise awareness on the need for reliable, objective and analytical and comprehensive reporting on Ghanaian businesses.

This year 2015 IFEJ Flamingo Awards will be held on the theme Protecting the National Purse and its being partnered by the World Bank Ghana office, GIZ, the Agricultural Development Bank and Enterprise Life.
