Achimota Retail Centre (ARC) has turned its Dome premises into a month-long cultural hub for Ghana’s 69th independence anniversary, running a programme that spans traditional ethnic music, social media competitions for young shoppers, and a first-time Eid ul-Fitr gift drive for Muslim patrons before the month ends on March 31.
The “Celebrate Ghana” campaign launched on March 6 with folkloric performances and a free kidney disease screening drive by the University of Ghana Medical Students Association, which selected the mall for its Independence Day community health outreach. The medical team set up camp at the centre and offered screenings to shoppers and walk-in visitors.
Weekend performances continue through March, with the next major showcase, titled “Echoes of the Volta: Agbadza in Motion,” taking the stage on March 14 and 15. The show will bring Ewe traditional music, harmonies, and drum language to the mall square, with subsequent weekends rotating through other ethnic musical traditions.
For shoppers, the “Shop Ghana and Win” promotion runs alongside the cultural calendar, with bi-weekly grand draws offering GH₵1,000 vouchers to lucky participants. Stores carrying made-in-Ghana products in fashion, food, and accessories, including Gamel Clodin, MV Accessories, and The Chop Bar, have been positioned at the centre of the retail experience throughout the month.
Younger visitors are being drawn in through two social media activations. The “Shop the Look” segment invites shoppers to style and post looks, while the “Dance Ghana” challenge asks participants to post 15-second reels capturing Ghanaian movement and swag. Both carry prizes.
In a move that broadens the campaign beyond a single cultural identity, ARC has set aside a dedicated period for Eid ul-Fitr Holiday Vibes, during which Muslim shoppers will receive gifts from participating tenants. The timing aligns the independence celebration with Ramadan, which falls within the Ghana Month window this year.
“ARC’s Ghana Month celebration is all about showcasing indigenous Ghanaian culture in all its creative and artistic manifestations,” Centre Manager Linda Pappoe said. “By the time the curtains drop over our Ghana Month party on March 31, we hope that the majority of our customers and revellers would have shared their experiences with us at #CelebrateGhanaAtARC.”
All weekends through the month are dedicated to Ghanaian craft vendors, reinforcing the handmade and local production angle of the celebration.
