The Africa Business Innovation Forum (ABIForum) 2024 has been held in Accra under the theme “Guiding Through Uncertainties: Fostering SME Success in a Dynamic Economy.”
The 4th annual Africa Business Innovation Forum (ABIForum) held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, was supported by MTN Ghana as the Headline Sponsor and First National Bank as the Gold and Silver Sponsor.
In a virtual address, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett commended SMEs for their vital role in economic growth. “At MTN, we deeply appreciate the significant contributions of SMEs,” Blewett stated. “Our mission is to foster an environment where SMEs can thrive, remain competitive, and achieve profitability. We are acutely aware of the challenges they face and are dedicated to offering the necessary resources and partnerships to support their success.”

Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Ghana, highlighted the forum’s core mission. “This conference is all about forging partnerships and driving collaboration,” Mensah-Poku said. “Our aim is to equip you with cutting-edge knowledge, creative ideas, and practical resources needed to navigate the ever-shifting business landscape and succeed in your respective fields.”
Mark Achiampong, Head of Commercial and Business Banking at First National Bank, also underscored the importance of adaptability for SMEs. “SMEs must remain focused and navigate economic storms,” Achiampong advised. “Innovation is key to improving businesses, and having a clear vision and purpose is essential. Additionally, SMEs should embrace their failures as learning opportunities.”

Mr. Ashiagbor shared his insights on the VUCA framework, which stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. “VUCA is a framework that demonstrates how the world around us is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous,” Mr. Ashiagbor explained. “Businesses, whether large, small, or micro, must plan for these developments. It’s a way of thinking about the environment and being prepared.”
Mr. Ashiagbor highlighted the universal applicability of VUCA principles, particularly for SMEs. He stressed the necessity for businesses to remain adaptable, noting that today’s effective operating models may not be viable tomorrow. “The idea is that for any business, as we’re discussing at this conference, you should think about different scenarios and possibilities,” he said.
The forum provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration, aiming to equip small and medium enterprises with the tools and insights needed to navigate the complexities of today’s economic landscape.
The 2024 Africa Business Innovation Forum was organized by Keynote Africa Conferences Group Limited and hosted by Precious Gyau, CEO of ABIForum/Keynote Africa.
